- Virology: Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) NPC screening, acute infection profile.
- Mycology: Talaromyces marneffei.
- Parasitology: amoebiasis, cysticercosis, trichinellosis.
- Bacteriology: Burkholderia pseudomallei, Bartonella henselae, brucellosis.
- Special molecular tests:
- Parvovirus, adenovirus, human herpesviruses (HHV-6, HHV-7), Pneumocystis jirovecii etc.

The clinical staff in the Department of Microbiology provide bedside infectious disease consultation service in Queen Mary Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, and The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, covering microbiology and infectious disease consultations in all specialties and patient populations.
